DETAILS
You arrive at our
front gate area to unload your gear, which we transport to your tent
(just like the bellman at a hotel!) Your car is then parked at a nearby
parking area where you can have access all week. There is no road going
to your tent site so keep in mind that the gear you pack must be
transportable by golf cart.
And even better
news for dog lovers - we have hardly any tick problem in our area - in 3
years, we’ve only seen one on a dog who had been in the trails plus we
have no poisonous snakes or bears or predators that could cause harm.
And, it’s not very buggy since the winters are cold so hardly any
mosquitoes, flies or other creatures to worry about. This country
experience only requires you to enjoy what’s here with suntan lotion
and a good attitude to have fun! |

2007 INSTRUCTOR BIOS:
Warren Mick
has been training and running Border Collies for the past 13 years. He currently
lives in Altamont with his wife Maria and eleven BCs. His BC experience started
in 1989 with a pup bred by his sister. Since that first dog, the world of
working sheepdogs has become an all consuming passion. He spends much of his
free time training and working his own dogs but also enjoys giving lessons and
helping others in training. Warren competes with his BC's at trials around the
country and has run in the past 4 National Finals and many regional
championships. He has also organized and judged many competitions. Warren will
tell you that while he enjoys trialing and judging very much, its the training
and working with the dogs that he really loves most. Seeing the dogs do what the
were bred for, connecting and communicating with a dog and the bonding that
develops is just indescribable. |
Tom Leigh
has been training and trialing with
his rescued Border Collies throughout the Northeast and Canada for the
past 10 years. He lives on an island off the coast of Maine with his wife
Susanna, a bossy cat and four (at the moment) rescued Border Collies. His
style with dogs is not overbearing - using a positive training approach,
he believes in letting the dog feel its way into its work, and in setting
it up to succeed. Last year, with his current rescue dog Jo, he received
the NEBCA (Northeast Border Collie Association) Long Road Award. Since the
award was established to recognize handlers successful at trials who have
trained their own dogs, this held particular meaning - not only because
competing dogs at trials are often imported and/or professionally trained,
but because Jo came as an untrained pet rescue. As a children's book
illustrator, Tom never imagined finding shepherd on his resume, but he's
been hooked ever since seeing the transformation of his 1st rescued BC
from house pet to herder. There's a tremendous bond that develops during
the training process, and along with the excitement of seeing his dogs
learn and apply new skills, he values having the privilege of being able
to help give them a chance to do the thing for which they're bred. |

Jessica Ajoux
Jessica Ajoux has been involved in
dog training and Agility since 1999 and is currently an active competitor,
instructor, and Agility judge. Originally from Southern California, Jessica
relocated to New Jersey when she attended Princeton University in 2003. After
graduating with a degree in Psychology, Jessica started teaching Agility full
time and operates “Ready…GO! Agility Training.” She offers instruction for
all levels along with puppy and basic obedience, as well as boarding and showing
services. Jessica is familiar with a variety of breeds and has achieved a
multitude of high honors with All-Americans, Border Collies and Cocker Spaniels.
She currently owns two Border Collies but can often be seen running around at
shows with the Cocker Spaniels, the Border Collies and a Yorkie. Her greatest
influence has been working in association with world renowned trainer, Diane
Bauman, with whom she has also co-authored a book, Agility Start to Finish, set
to be released in Spring 2008. Jessica also has experience in Tracking, Frisbee,
and Obedience.
|
Carole Artim
started tracking in the early 70's. She has titled 3 German
shepherd dogs and a rottweiler. She also competed in Schutzhund and studied from
seminars with Glen Johnson, the author of "Tracking Dog - Theory and
Methods". Carole became a tracking judge in the late 70's. She later
trained expanded her field and scent experience with hunting dogs. Carole also
continues to train in obedience and became and AKC obedience judge. She has

Lisa Basial
presently teaches flyball and Rally Obedience at the
Fieldwood Dog Training Center in Carlisle, PA, and works with dogs and owners
privately on flyball, Rally and general behavioral issues. She has been
competing in and teaching flyball at myriad training facilities in Pennsylvania
for the past seven years, and has begun to compete in and teach the wonderful
new sport Rally Obedience in the past year and a half. Using positive training
methods and reinforcement, Lisa's primary focus in training is building the
relationship between the dog and owner, as all else follows from that. Lisa's
border collie, Ransom, plays flyball with his mom, Deb Norman's Ticker, on the
regional champion Fur Fun Flyball Team and competes in sheep herding
trials. Her German Shepherd mix, Juno, is a retired flyball dog who
happily competes in the wonderful new sport of Rally Obedience. And Lisa's 11
1/2 year old border collie, Willie, spends most of his time patiently trying to
make Lisa a better handler in sheep herding trials.

Barbara Bekker
acquired her first Portuguese Water Dog in 1992 and quickly became
involved in water training and trialing. In 1996, her “Diva”
became the 6th Portuguese Water Dog in the U.S. to attain the highest
water trial title. Water titles on her other two PWDs soon
followed, and Barbara began sharing her skills through water training
workshops for Keystone Portuguese Water Dog Club. She served as
member and then chairperson of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of
America’s water trail committee. Prior to her water trialing,
Barbara owned various retrievers and trained them in field, obedience,
and tracking. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University
of Pennsylvania with training in animal behavior, and has worked for 12
years as a canine behavior consultant and editor of CAPERS canine
behavior newsletter. In addition to teaching water skills and water
sports to others, Barbara is also a high school counselor.
Currently she is training her 10 month old Portuguese Water Dog in
obedience, agility, water, and tracking. |
Pam Dennison
is a member of the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers), NADOI
(National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors), DWAA (Dog Writers
Association of America) and is a Certified Animal Behavior Consultant
with the IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior
Consultants). Pam started her own business, Positive Motivation Dog
Training in 1996. Since then she has helped thousands of dogs and
handlers build their relationships and solve problems, by teaching basic
obedience through competition and working with a myriad of behavioral
problems. Pam teaches puppy K, basic obedience through the Canine Good
Citizen test, competition obedience, Rally-O and holds regular classes
and seminars for aggressive dogs.
She currently lives with three
rescued dogs (Border Collies) and trains them all for competition. She
and her Sheltie Cody qualified and competed in the Eastern United States
Dog Obedience Championships held in Bethlehem, PA in 1996. Pam competes
successfully with all of her dogs in competition obedience and Rally (to
date: six CD titles, one CDX, two ARCH’s, three R1MCL, one R2MCL and
one R2CL, one RL3, with almost every leg in both sports being a
placement), and agility, (to date: one NJC, two NAJ and two NA, all
first placements) plus three CGC certificates, one TDI and three TSW’s
(Canine Water Sports) and she continues to train for competition
obedience, sheep herding, tracking and carting. |
Erin Saywell
Flyball is my main dog activity now. Harding, my female basset hound,
went to the bridge December of 2004 with two flyball titles (FD and FDX)
and an agility title (NJP). Harding still holds the rank of #3 basset in
North American flyball. Elwood earned his ONYX title in flyball, after
running for 9 years. He joined Harding at the bridge in June of 2005. I
now have four red rescued Australian Shepherds that own me, aka The
Reds: Ripley (10 y.o.), Xander (6 y.o.), Inara (3 1/2 y.o.) and Sawyer
(2 y.o.); and one Aussie/Red-wannabe, Score (4 mo. old) All four Aussies
currently play flyball and are titled in the sport, and Score has just
started his flyball training. I am the owner and captain of Two-Lane
Highway flyball team, based at Fidos For Freedom, an Assistance Dog
training organization, in Laurel, MD. All of my dogs are trained in
agility, and also enjoy dabbling in other sports; K-9 disc, carting,
herding and tracking. I am also an Assistance Dog Trainer with Fidos,
and the three male dogs are Therapy Dogs with Fidos and visit nursing
homes, hospitals and do a school reading program. |
Jen Madrid
is a student of Abbie Tamber and has been involved in dog agility for 6
years. Her first dog, Max, developed fear aggression and separation
anxiety issues. In her efforts to help Max, Jen learned so much about
behavior modification and learning theory that it actually improved her
effectiveness working with kids in her job as a school psychologist. Max
is a happy agility competitor and has earned his CPE "Specialist
Champion" agility title as well as his Rally Advanced title. Her
second dog, a high-octane young Shetland Sheepdog named Tommy, has
started his agility career as well and has his Level 1 CPE titles and
his Rally Novice title. Tommy is completely clicker-trained and learned
strong agility foundation skills right from the beginning. |
Deb Norman, Y2K9s
Dog Sports Club
Deb is founder and Training
Director of Y2K9s Dog Sports Club near Philadelphia. She uses
clicker training to teach relationship and sports skills in classes and
privately. She captains Fur Fun Flyball Team, 2000, 2003, 2004,
2005 and 2006 NAFA regional champions. Her Border collie Ticker
has her USDAA Agility Championship and has over 60,000 flyball points.
In over 30 years of training and competing in obedience she titled many
dogs, including a TD and a UD with several High in Trials. She
titled two Belgian Tervuren in Agility and Rally Obedience and is
currently working Shiner, her youngest BC, in agility and flyball. Her
greatest delight is building strong, loving relationships and opening
the worlds of agility and flyball to people and their canine companions. |
Kim Siemens
started in dogs over ten years ago working with shelter dogs at the SPCA
where she adopted her first dog, an All Canadian mixed breed, named
'Oscar'. Oscar needed an outlet for his endless energy and that is when
Kim became hooked on dog sports and learning about dog behavior and
training, she hasn't looked back since! Oscar led Kim into several
activities including Flyball, Disc Dog (Frisbee), Obedience and Agility.
Aside from earning multiple titles in these sports Kim's dogs have also
starred in several commercials, print adds, television shows and
performance demonstrations across North America and even in the
UK!
Kim owns and operates "If It
Wags...", an home boarding and training business in St. Catharines,
Ontario, Canada. All of Kim's training methods are based on positive
reinforcement. he encourages handlers to use their dog's natural drives
and instincts as motivators making training much more fun and enjoyable.
Kim is currently owned by five Border Collies, three Bearded Collies, a
Belgian Malinois and of course Oscar. Kim often opens her heart and home
to foster dogs in need of some TLC and behavior modification before they
are able to find a forever home of their own....and it is these special
dogs that have taught her more than any others. |
Rosie Sutherland
Rosie has been competing in agility
since 1996, starting with an aussie and then several border collies. Her
dogs Todd and Rhyn both have Platimun Lifetime Acheivement Awards, the
highest title in USDAA agility. Todd also has the AKC MACH title
and Rhyn is closing in on his MACH2. Her youngest dog, Risk, is
currently trialling in Masters and starting to compete in flyball. Rosie
teaches classes and seminars for several New Jersey clubs and is the
Agility Director of Y2K9s Dog Sports Club near Philadelphia. Both she
and her students have been finalists in AKC and USDAA national
championships. |
Abbie Tamber
owns and operates Dogs on the Run, LLC in Oxford, New York. She has been
teaching manners classes since 1991 and agility seminars since 1995. Abbie
now specializes in agility classes using “the clicker”. Abbie started
to compete in USDAA Agility with a talented and very challenging mixed breed
named Loki. Loki has taught Abbie everything an instructor needs to know
about patience and persistence. Her current agility dog, a four year old
JRT, named Microburst actually comes when called and has taught her how to deal
with ENERGY. Although Abbie and Micro compete in NADAC and AKC their
main efforts are in USDAA, where they have earned an ADCH. They have also
qualified for the Grand Prix (USDAA Nationals) both years that they have
competed and for 2001 they were rated in the TOP TEN in Jumpers. Abbie is
one of those special teachers who can convince the average student that the
rules of USDAA Snooker are quite understandable and FUN! It is not
surprising that Abbie’s contributions to Clean Run include an article entitled
“Snooker Impaired?”. |

The
CANINE COUNTRY CAMP = value!
It has everything you want to do or try in one place for a tremendous
savings!
If you were to do all these activities at home, it would cost you over
$3000!!
During your camp stay, your dog has the potential
(depending on interest and talent) to do agility, herding ; flyball and
tracking 10 times during the week and that doesn’t include all the other
sports available during camp. |
| How does this compare to activities in
your home town?
Agility lessons in most cities are $50 - 100 per
hour for private sessions. Group classes of 8 people are $25 - $55,
depending on the trainer.
In just agility alone, you could spend up
to $500 - 1000 for this many sessions in one week |
 |
 |
Herding lessons are $40 - $90 , depending
on the instructor
Clinics are $100 per day with two times with sheep
in herding alone, you could spend up to
$400 - 900 with this many sessions in one week |
| Tracking can cost as much as $85 an hour
for a private lesson
so in tracking, your cost could be as high
as $850 for a week of lessons |
 |
| Just do the math and
it’s easy to see that a camp fee of $1200 is a huge savings and
there’s even more included: flyball; tracking; water sports;
frisbee; freestyle; animal communication; health & nutrition and
endless trail walks on 174 acres of gorgeous countryside designed
around dogs and what makes them the happiest!!
Campers find that their dogs have more fun in
this off-leash doggie paradise than anywhere else! And the humans do,
too!! |
| Your camp fee includes instruction
from very skilled, noted teachers who teach year round with clients
who travel all over the northeast to gain their expertise.
Unlike other camps, our teachers are not separate
from campers. At the Canine Country Camp,
our instructors are also with you 24/7, available at any
time to discuss your interests and needs.
They join with you in sessions, dining and
activities, sharing their knowledge all week long.
- priceless! |

 |
|
Plus, your camp fee includes all
meals, delicious professional catered breakfast, lunch and dinner specialties,
a wonderful combination of gourmet vegetarian with free-range organic
poultry and meat, all humanely raised. |
| Most important, campers say Glen
Highland Farm is unique. It is a slice of heaven for dogs
and dog lovers.
Unlike other dog camps that rent generic hotels or
campgrounds to use, Glen Highland Farm
is a year-round facility created just FOR dogs, those that visit and those
that are here in rescue.
The entire Farm exists to help and honor dogs and
their incredible gifts to our lives and was designed around what dogs love
to do - they even picked the trails!
Our cabins, RV’s and tent sites are canine
created, pooch paradises for both two-legged and four-legged
companions. |

 |
|
And, when you come to the Canine
Country Camp at Glen Highland Farm,
you are helping abandoned, unwanted and homeless rescue dogs! Your
camp fee (less costs for instructors & food) goes directly to rescue
so you can feel great having a wonderful vacation and doing something
wonderful for dogs in need. No other camp benefits dogs!! |
|
