FLEET'S STORY An 11 year old Border Collie, FLEET is a really sweet guy with a very affectionate nature, happy to cuddle up by your feet and be with you. His friendly nature is obvious soon as you meet him - he loves everyone he meets. However, Fleet has a sensitive nature so will do best in an adult home that is quiet and offers a simpler life without the chaos of a family. Fleet has no experience with children. He is a ‘soft’ Border Collie that blossoms with encouragement and reassurance. He doesn’t like raised voices and can worry in new situations. Fleet enjoys ball toss games but is not obsessed. Soccer is the game he’s always played and enjoys the most. He also enjoys going for walks and is easy greeting adults and other dogs. Plus, he rides great in the car. In his younger days, he had fun learning agility but once his hip dysplasia was discovered, that sport was not the right fit for his body. Fleet is a lean, light framed border collie and quite agile. Fleet’s previous home included 8 other dogs - small and large - but his favored friend was a female aussie. While he gets along fine with all the male Border Collies at Glen Highland, he invites play with the one senior female, Nell, one of the Resident ‘greeter’ dogs who helps new dogs relax. Fleet faced a tough few months when his person went into a nursing home and his canine pack were rehomed, one by one, leaving him to be one of the last to go. The owner’s friend contacted 20 rescues hoping to find him a spot but had no luck whatsoever due to Fleet's age. Fortunately, the Texas rescue, BCSave, reached out to Glen Highland for help and we were able to take him. Fleet went through a 24-hour transport ride to get east to Virginia. He arrived to GLen HIghland late June 2023. He clearly dropped weight with all the changes, coming to us at 35 pounds. Finally, he is beginning to eat heartily and enjoy his new situation. Fleet does need joint support and pain relief - he is now benefiting from Gabapentin at night to help offset any pain from daytime activities. He has always been on joint support.
