At age 2, Holly had to leave the love she had known. She had a horrible start as the only surviving puppy of a cast-off litter, left to die by the side of the road. It was Thanksgiving when a dog lover scooped her up to safety.
Thankfully, Holly thrived, yet her guardian faced the very difficult decision years later that Holly needed more. Juggling an even busier life meant Holly was alone most of the day. Boarding, daycare or dog walkers were costs she could not afford. She contacted Glen Highland Border Collie Rescue. "My situation is not fair to Holly, and I would rather go through the heartbreak of letting her go than watch her continue living a life where her needs aren't being met.”
At this time, Border Collie Rescues as well as shelters are overloaded with a deluge of dogs. It’s impossibly hard to find spots for purebreds and Holly, while adorable, was clearly a mix and not getting any help at all. ![]() Glen Highland set ideas in motion - who do we know who would want a sweet, friendly, easy-going young mix? Our decision to help Holly was underway. Something told us we knew that person already! It was August 9th when Holly's guardian wrote an email asking for help. She had been trying every avenue possible, never ever considering a shelter. Her patience and love for Holly paid off - it took one month for the answer to become clear! A former Glen Highland adopter had been eager to add another Border Collie. She had four Border Collies at one time and now with one left, it was too calm. However, life had changed…a 5 year old daughter meant it was time for an easier kid-oriented canine pal. Putting her daughter’s needs first, the potential adopter went to meet Holly. A bubbly, friendly, outgoing dog warmed up to her instantly. Holly's good nature was obvious yet so far from the over-thinking, intensely focused BC pals the adopter was used to… it took no time at all to realize Holly WAS the absolute right addition to the family!
Holly finally found the new place she belonged… as a little girl’s new friend! Her former guardian felt relief that she had made the right decision so Holly could have a bigger life! Glen Highland was thrilled to make this perfect match! "Kelsey made Holly her own corner. She thought she needed large mixing bowls for food and water. Haha. She drew hearts on the plates!"
