HAPPY ADOPTION DAY WILLIS! We are so excited to share that when 11.5 year old Willis landed at Glen Highland, he clearly felt right for a recent Glen Highland adopter who lost their BC. When we wrote to check-in with them, they said "Yes, we want to hear more!" And, the rest is history. On April 7, 2024, This sweet fella, WILLIS, who so clearly longed for his person has now landed beautifully with two people we know very, very well. They will give him plenty of time to sort his way through this change. A very sensitive dog, Willis needs just the right place to hang his 'hat' so to speak. Well, a few days in, we are thrilled to share that Willis is good to go, and then some! They are crazy about him! In memory of the great BC's they have had before, Willis is now adored and cherished!

WILLIS' HISTORY Say hello to 11.5 year old WILLIS! This is one gorgeous, sweet ‘old soul’ type guy and he has been great with all the change and fine with the other rescues though clearly prefers a person. In fact, he is a couch dog for sure and wants to be inside hanging out a lot with someone and get his belly rubs! He will play a bit of ball outside but once strolling with his person, he really enjoys exploring. Willis is very good-natured and eager to be with people... he is very engaged, knowing phrases like: get your ball, go for a walk, go for a ride and sit, and give paw…clearly he has been a companion and involved with his person. Seeing such an engaged Border Collie, we want him to find his new life quickly so he can get back into the routine of a close relationship with someone. Willis has great eyesight and hearing and is strong when running for the ball, clearly eager to play. He does, however have compromises in his back-end. His legs turn inward and he has trouble staying upright for long periods. Our diagnostics with xrays and handling evaluations lead our vet to conclude he likely has ACL- tears in both legs. His back is strong with normal old-dog arthritis which allows him to compensate pretty well, all things considered. Since Willis also has a heart murmur, we will not consider surgery as appropriate for him and considering his strength in activities now, a careful approach to play should keep things in good shape as time unfolds. Willis lived with one person the past 7 years after they adopted him from the shelter. When they became unable to care for him, he was abandoned at a Maryland shelter who thankfully works with Glen Highland. He is 53 pounds, a MUCH larger BC than the breed standard. |
