Della is a stunning, intelligent dog who really uses her mind to solve problems. It’s easy to see her wheels turning in every situation. She is a classic female ‘worker’, aware of the whole property, all the activities and who is there day to day. She is the lead female of the pack so likely could be best with a softer BC in a home along with her, completing her ‘pack’ but not challenging her.

Della had two serious medical challenges soon as we met her... a pyometra, which is an infected uterus, and a mammary mass that needed to be removed. Both needs have been handled and she has recovered well. Since her surgery was an intensive emergency care procedure it was very costly ($4500) but we are relieved to have found and addressed these conditions as she could have easily died.

Della's mammary mass is a low - intermediate grade cancer common with mammary tumors. The surgery should be curative since it is localized and she has no signs whatsoever of cancer elsewhere. She will require monitoring of the mammary area to be sure we stay ahead of any possible developments.

Della has begun the protocol for heartworm treatment and if all goes well, will have injections in mid-July and mid-August. It is a tough treatment and since she has been positive for heartworm for a couple years, we expect she could have a hard reaction to killing the worms. We will be watching her very, very carefully.
