The most amazing Resident Helper was Cricket. In her short 9 years at GH, she was the ultimate surrogate Mom.

Over 400 puppies came to GH while in NY and most of them landed at the Founder’s home with Cricket. She was the perfect teacher to them: patient, fun, yet strong. Puppy after puppy followed her direction and craved her attention. She taught them when to give up their toys and bones to her and how to share. She taught them when to stop being such a pest and calm down. And she taught them to be brave and follow her into the big new world, meeting other Border Collies.

Cricket carried the massive role of shaping a new life especially at such an important time. From 6 weeks old up to 6 months, she gave pups specific help they needed from a mentor “mom”.

She died unexpectedly at age 9 in 2021 once we relocated to Virginia. Thankfully, she had one full year to be off-duty and just enjoy herself! Cricket deserved a big break after all that heavy-lifting.

We will be forever grateful for all she gave of herself to help the rescue pups. We deeply miss this little spirit of joy- Cricket loved her Glen Highland life.
