No matter how many times we go through a good-bye, it’s so very hard. GOOD-BYE DEAR DAPHNE... Three years at Glen Highland and almost 16, she had to go…her body was unraveling over the weekend as old bodies do…so back to spirit she went on June 16, 2026. In Daphne’s view, SHE ran Glen Highland and had opinions about everything…a true partner. She bounded through the property like she lived here forever, claiming every space her own…she inspected each package or purse or container to find whatever was hers…she opened gates no other dogs ever challenged…she headed out every door first and she expected to be consulted on all decisions…seriously…non-stop brainpower working all the time. Even though she lost the home she’d known since a pup, she happily claimed the rescue as HER JOB. AND, it was her canine leadership where she really shined. As is often the case with this breed, girls boss boys and the boys adored Daphne…instantly…she literally showed them the ropes…"go this way, check this out, come with me, over here is the best spot, this is how it’s done, come on it’s all fun"…the list went on and on. Boys came and went and the more the merrier..it was Daphne’s club of wayward boys (no girls allowed). She shaped them to trust their new world, some becoming adoptable and with others, she shared the best secrets of Sanctuary life - how to manipulate the humans! These boys all have Daphne to thank for making their journey at Glen Highland a good one:
Top row: Nikko, Reed, Zorro, Jake, Reilly, Chester
One can only imagine this girl on a real working farm! And, now we can remove the contraptions on all the gates that Ms Houdini undid! GREAT WORK DAPHNE…

DAPHNE IS OUR ‘ELDER’ WISE ONE AT GLEN HIGHLAND! UPDATE August 2025: Now age 15…she is the oldest Sanctuary Resident! She has been with us TWO YEARS and just as sassy and demanding as the day she arrived…of course we love her! Today was another serious day of bossing around the boys (photo below): Tucker, age 11, to her left; Jack, age 13, to her right; and Ollie, age 13 herding from the rear as usual.
Daphne has been the matriarch to almost a dozen male Border Collies, much like Peter Pan’s ‘lost boys’…they ALL needed her strength and direction to land and blossom. She has truly been the GH Founder Lillie’s canine partner in shaping up the males: Reed, Nikko, Zorro, Jake, Kade, Kumba, Bobby, Harley, Reilly, Chester, Jack…she is ON DUTY! Only one queen in the kingdom though so no BC girls allowed! From North Carolina, we literally snagged her in the throes of moving boxes being loaded heading to a home where she could not go…in 24 hours, she was safe and has adapted beautifully. We are so grateful she made Glen Highland her new purpose in life!
A 14 year old sweetheart, Daphne landed at Glen Highland from North Carolina and has fit in like she’s always lived here! Super friendly to everyone she is meeting and happy to be with you, side by side. She lost her home due to financial issues with a move to non-dog residence. She lived in this home for 13 years as the emotional support dog for her FurMom, helping care for her and the family. They were desperate to find her a safe place to share her heart with others. Daphne is a blast, just loves a good ball game and playing with stuffed toys. Daphne is just the funniest, brightest, sweetest thing…and has decided she just might be busy enough here! Lots of land, lots of dogs, lots of toys and lots of time to be the boss girl!
