Tiny Mirra from Georgia graced us with her sweetness for two months. Likely 13 years old, the life of a stray left her weakened, with little reserve.

As she gained weight, her coat became so beautiful and her eyes brighter and even a little trot in her steps as she went for a roll in the grass. But, something was still not right.

We’ve seen and felt this before…no matter the gains, there is a gut sense that the clock is ticking. Today’s advanced diagnostics revealed a time bomb beyond what we expected.

Her small body had a rare adrenal tumor indicating an aggressive cancer (pheochromocytoma) that restricted blood flow to the heart, created a huge blood clot certain to rupture and invaded all the tissue around the heart. This explained why her upper body was so oddly distended making room for this illness that had been brewing long before she came to us. Risk for this type of tumor is 1 per 100,000 dogs.

As we said our good-byes, we always hold onto the truth that SHE made it right where she needed to be to build her strength to cross back to spirit. Yes, her body was still very broken but she was so much happier, renewed to run, cuddle and charm all of us around her…the spark of joy shone through each moment with her.

This restoration of her body and her soul gave her the ability to leave ‘whole’…
she was the best self she could be to return ‘home’.

THE LIGHT STILL SHINES…godspeed Mirra.

MIRRA'S HISTORY

MIRRA just arrived from Georgia…A pretty little red merle reported to be 13 years old! We are so happy to help this lovely little 30 pound gal who was left roaming most if not all her life. When picked up by animal control, the owner said there was no interest to keep her…how sad…and of course, so cruel. Malnourished and loaded with fleas, she was very weakened.

Yet, this tiny survivor is here to share her BIG hearted self - oh boy are we smitten already!

Mirra arrived at 11:30pm in a big transport van filled with puppies and kittens headed north to safety.

The shelter treated her for the serious flea infestation, gave her healthy food and found a loving fosterer to give a quiet spot to start healing. When we wrote to help, they tucked her in the van to us and here she is!

What a gem…sweet, sweet, sweet…nudging with her nose for more petting and reaching out with her paw for attention. It’s ALWAYS STUNNING JUST HOW SWEET BORDER COLLIES LAND IN SUCH AWFUL SITUATIONS…

Thankfully, MIRRA is here. WELCOME LITTLE MIRRA... hoping we have lots of time ahead with you.

A huge thank you to Donna West at the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Society who does an unbelievable job helping so many, many Georgia dogs in trouble. And, a big thanks to kind-hearted Judy Golden who opened her home for this Senior in Need until the shelter found help.
