GOODBYE SWEET PEARL

On November 14, 2025 we said goodbye to sweet PEARL, age 12, with us almost 6 months. She had a life in limbo on arrival…she came with a cancer diagnosis. As we watched this little gal gain some strength and brighten her expressions, we chuckled as she gleefully made the most of each day and each week and each month.

Of course, we knew this day was coming but were so delighted she gained the time she did.

Weakened by living as a stray, Pearl remained resolute to grab life in all its glory…romping and exploring outside; eating each meal like a culinary delight… saying hello for cuddles to everyone she met…and wide-eyed to meet each new day!

If a dog could offer inspiration to us all…it was Pearl…cancer or no cancer…just show up ready to go! That she did!

Saying goodbye to such a strong, determined survivor was humbling. She wanted more time…more of everything while she was in her physical body but it was that very body that determined she had to go.

We sent Pearl off surrounded with deep, deep love, holding an energy to remind her of her spiritual nature. The other side in spirit holds great gifts for Pearl and we are certain she will grab them all with the same gusto as she did here on earth!

YOU GO PEARL…thanks for sharing your sweetness and great strength…
go after it all…you deserve only the best!

PEARL'S HISTORY

Shortly after arrival we found out that our dearest sweetest girl, PEARL, DOES in fact have cancer, which was suspected from her high calcium lab results. It’s actually a parathyroid tumor on her neck now confirmed with ultrasound. Sadly, it has metastasized to her liver and there are numerous masses so our time will be limited.

We are pleased to say that she is currently a great eater, lives life with a smile on her face and a charming nature that wins over every single person instantly. Boy oh boy will she be missed but we are so grateful to be helping her have a soft, loving landing no matter how long. What a gem….

PEARL is estimated to be 12 years old but that age just means 12 years of sweetness…what a gem this girl is! It’s stunning to think of her fending for herself, living outside her whole life. Thankfully a kind-hearted dog lover gave her warm bedding, food & water on the porch after finding her freezing outside in one winter snowstorm.

Though living in South Carolina, this geography has snow and it was truly frigid and she was in trouble. The nearby neighbor who was Pearl’s person didn’t want her anymore, leaving her to stray. It’s hard to imagine someone so cruel to such a marvelous, adorable Border Collie…honestly mind-blowing but that is thankfully in the past.

As you might imagine, Pearl is VERY happy to be in a cozy, warm home full-time, cherished as part of the Glen Highland Sanctuary. Luckily for Pearl, a relative reached out to ensure that Pearl would have her remaining years with us and we were happy to help.

Though her story now is good, it comes with a bit more sad news since the extensive vetting we have done is leading to a diagnosis of cancer. We know she is happy, eating well, making new friends and exploring a life where people truly care for her as a friend.

Everyone at Glen Highland is smitten and grateful to be part of her world. She is a petite sweetheart, about 35 pounds of love!

Special thanks to Olga Cadilla-Sayres, Aiyana Persinger and Tim Mills who helped transport Pearl to Glen Highland.
