In a swift turn of events on June 4, 2026, SASHA went from an alert happy-go-lucky Border Collie to one with a bleeding oral mass needing a fast vet run. It happened within hours of discovering the oddly shaped swollen tissue on one of her back molars. Not one to let anyone handle her, it took careful maneuvering to confirm that this was a massive problem. Sadly, at age 13, this sweet gal already had a list of medical issues - severe heart murmur; a mammary mass; extreme dental disease and a suspicious cancerous mass, too - but today’s development required urgent action. The vet confirmed surgery was not an option and her suffering was significant so we said goodbye much sooner than ever expected. Sasha arrived in January 2026 so only had five short months of proper care and love. She flourished in a wonderful transformation of tons more energy, joyful happiness and healing her battle wounds of a rough life. Sasha was having a blast at Glen Highland!

We are so happy Sasha found joy for the months with us and we have been inspired watching her blossom. Bittersweet tears all around today but we know she found deep purpose in her life as a Border Collie before she left us…her spark radiated. We will all miss her.

At 13, SASHA had to handle a big life change from one home since a puppy, to rescue at Glen Highland. Thankfully, she is starting to realize that the Sanctuary life is tailored to her happiness. We are seeing this lovely girl take a deep breath and feel things just might work out! She is beginning to move around the house and select spots to watch everything unfold. She’s even enjoying the outdoors! She is such a gentle soul with a very sweet nature, undeserving of abandonment.
Within a couple days, her anxiety started to lessen and we now see a radiant girl that will blossom with more time. We are delighted to give her a Sanctuary life of much better care and love. Sasha did arrive without much hair on most of her back which is likely due to a severe flea infestation at some time so needs medicated baths. She also has lyme disease which we’ll treat as well as other medical needs that arise. Sasha spent two weeks in a Pennsylvania shelter due to a quarantine situation which created so much anxiety for her. We are grateful the shelter worked with Glen Highland over the years and reached out for help. We know she is good with cats. She is 45 pounds. But, in the Senior Sanctuary, we are always racing against the clock when neglected Seniors arrive. They’ve been surviving without any support and while we provide expert solutions to many problems, some have been brewing for so long, it’s impossible to stop the progression.
