Lucky LENA is staying with her foster family and we are thrilled! She made such great progress and it’s wonderful for her to build on that foundation which makes her feel safe and loved. She has a BC buddy and we will get to see her often since her new FurMom is actively involved in the rescue. LENA'S STORY: Lena continues to be worried with sounds that surprise her so will need positive reinforcement when she gets nervous to guide her to trust in her person. She is discovering toy play, but only with non-squeaking toys. Her skittish nature likely comes from the limited experience in life. We presume she spent time more with other Border Collies than in a home setting. She does love playing with another herding dog so would be best living with a mentor dog who loves to engage in herding games! She came to Glen Highland in June 2021 from a South Carolina shelter as a stray so our expertise in rescue is guiding us to presume her history, that of a pen dog living with other dogs. She is loving the home setting but still seeks a spot a safe spot to call her own. There has been abuse in her history based on her worries when being touched or picked up, both however have dramatically improved. She did not have appropriate health care, evident in her severe dental disease. Extractions of all but four of her teeth were needed upon arrival in rescue. She eats fine with softened food and is finally pain-free from what was an excruciating problem. The joy in her expressions is evident!!!
