At age 10, Mikki, a Border Collie Beardie needed a new home when her guardian lost her home and headed to live with family meaning Mikki had no place to go.

Working with our rescue colleagues, ARC Atlantic Region BC rescue, we stepped in to help with wonderful Glen Highland adopters who had notified us they were open to a mix. They just wanted to give a home to a sweet dog again like their beloved GH alums who had passed.

Luckily Mikki fit the bill so with transport and overnight lodging set up from North Carolina north to Virginia then onto Pennsylvania (thank you Anne Skalski and Tracy Blevins!!) Mikki landed in her new life. It took a team to make this possible for Mikki.

The angels were singing that day as it turned out that unbeknownst to her previous guardian, Mikki needed fast surgery to remove a massive bladder stone causing significant problems. Both rescues stepped in to help along with her new FurMom and FurDad who clearly inherited a REAL RESCUE, physically and financially...(the picture below represents the size of the stone but is NOT the actual stone, there were several small stones too)

Mikki is now past surgery and recovering beautifully... about to have the grooming of a lifetime and make the outer her match the inner sweetheart she is... what a gem... and now safely set for many years ahead. We are all thrilled!

Bladder stones normally come from diet and cause urinary issues which must be caught by xrays. Many can be dissolved by diet changes but those undetected for too long, grow in size and then surgery is life-saving. Any urinary issues really need to be checked immediately to prevent problems like this.
