WE ARE SO very happy to report that ARCHIE is ready for a home! He has overcome a VERY rough history and blossomed into better health, strength and certainly happiness! All of us at Glen Highland and those who have shared his story can celebrate this transformation! AND, we thank all of you who have donated to turn his life around. He deserves a great journey now with someone who will cherish this fella! Things to know about the ‘new’ Archie:
He is a pip…as in, a CHARMER, just a funny fella that has a special spark of joy that comes through… could be his hop-along trot to come in; his soaking up the sunshine outside or even his digging in a little hidey-hole…these are all things specific to him in how he enjoys life no matter what! He is TRUSTING…amazingly so considering his body is filled with buckshot and his front legs are busted most likely by trauma as well as the side of his jaw shortened but he thinks people are just the best, all there to meet him! His RESILIENCY is impressive: Archie had all his teeth removed due to the neglect he endured but he eats like a champ and now is happy to have his face rubbed. He has pain meds for his fractured front legs so moves along at quite a quick clip, even right up on the couch, happy as can be. Plus, he's gained weight and has a gorgeous coat now, loving a good brushing.
Archie’s last hurdle is treating HEARTWORM. He does not need to be in rescue to do this… Many of our seniors cleared the disease and enjoyed new lives at the same time, without restrictions… Tucker, Reed, Jake, Celia, Hampton & others…it’s a safer way for older dogs. So, we will start the slow-kill method using the topical product Advantage-Multi monthly rather than the injection protocol which is way too painful. AND GLEN HIGHLAND WILL PROVIDE THE PRODUCT to an adopter until the heartworm is cleared. Some dogs have taken a few months but it could take longer. Simple Heartworm tests confirm once the disease is gone. SO IT’S TIME FOR A FOREVER HOME FOR ARCHIE! Hoping NOW we find that special person who wants to experience Archie so the next chapter of his journey on earth can continue!
Adoption inquiries, please write rescue@glenhighland.com For former Glen Highland adopters, we can arrange transport in the Northeast region. For new adopters, we require that you visit Archie at Glen Highland in Virgina.

Four months ago in March 2026, ARCHIE came to Glen Highland and boy did he need us... This petite 30 pound (now 40lb) fella had a long list of problems, some fixable and some not. Assumed to be around 9 years old, Archie has been reportedly a stray ALL his life in the very rural area of Kentucky where he lived. He’s survived living on porches seeking shelter and at homes begging for food. Supposedly the good samaritan most recently providing for him was 90 years old and when she passed, neighbors said he showed up again in the middle of the street. He was extremely underweight (bodyscore 3/9) due to a load of parasites taking all the nutrition and he was very weak so neutering had to wait until he was stronger. He had a large prostate cyst that required emergency care or it could have killed him. Plus, heartworm disease having never been on preventative. |

We also discovered both front legs were fractured…one so bad he barely puts any weight on it and the other healed oddly enough he can use it but we could just imagine the level of suffering he had endured - the fractures were old. And, loads of buckshot in his body, clearly from humans not wanting him around. Plus the right side of his jaw had signs of trauma since it was almost half as short as the other side, leading us to believe that Archie had a very bad FALL or human induced injury years ago. Plus, he has eye sight loss on the right side. Archie came to Glen Highland from animal control in Kentucky. We want to thank Leigh Miller for her valiant volunteer effort to reach out for rescue help. She steps into Animal Control (there is not shelter in the area) and tries dog after dog to get them out to safety… One amazing woman helped one amazing dog who deserves to be happy and healthier.
