March 2026 brought ARCHIE to Glen Highland and boy did he need us. This petite 30 pound fella has a long list of problems, some fixable and some not, but either way, this sweet Border Collie mix is starting a journey to regain health and be showered in love. Assumed to be around 9 years old, Archie has been reportedly a stray ALL his life in the very rural area of Kentucky where he lived. He’s survived living on porches seeking shelter and at homes begging for food. Supposedly the good samaritan most recently providing for him was 90 years old and when she passed, neighbors said he showed up again in the middle of the street. Archie has never had a real home, ever. So that means no vet care either.

SEVERE dental disease will likely lead to most of his teeth being removed… FIRST though he needs to be on antibiotics before surgery because one tooth root is abscessing into his muzzle…and he also has a bad urinary tract infection plus a nasty ear infection in both ears. He is extremely underweight (bodyscore 3/9) due to a load of parasites taking all the nutrition and he is very weak so neutering is not an option yet, either. AND, sadly he IS HEARTWORM POSITIVE. We will proceed with the slow-kill method of using Advantage-Multi monthly rather than the injection protocol which would be way too risky for Archie. Hoping, like Tucker and others we have treated this way, that Archie clears heartworm without any issues. |

The thing that makes all this so incredibly sad is that Archie also has FRACTURED FRONT LEGS…one so bad he barely puts any weight on it and the other healed oddly enough he can use it but we can just imagine the level of suffering he has endured - the fractures are old. AND, the right side of his jaw has signs of trauma since it is almost half as short as the other side, leading us to believe that Archie had a very bad FALL or human induced injury years ago. Plus, he has eye sight loss on the right side. Additional traumatic injuries of the head could very well be likely. We will know more about his mental abilities after more time with him. |

On top of all that, xrays revealed LOTS of buckshot all over his hind area obviously meaning he was target practice and/or forced away from wherever he wanted to be… THE GREAT NEWS AND IT IS GREAT…
ARCHIE IS THE SWEETEST GUY AROUND…

Archie does, however, become worried about simple things like car rides and leashes and inside living but we are pretty sure this is the easy stuff this trusting guy will overcome! Amazingly, Archie is great with other dogs! We will update Archie’s bio as vetting is underway, staged based on his strength. We are in love with Archie already and have our fingers crossed that we can transform his ill health quickly enough to give him more time on earth.
We want to thank Leigh Miller for her valiant volunteer effort to reach out for rescue help. She steps into Animal Control (there is not shelter in the area) and tries dog after dog to get them out to safety… One amazing woman helped one amazing dog who deserves to be happy and healthier. Thank you Leigh. |
