JAX, age 11 & JILL, age 8, landed at Glen Highland and haven’t looked back, happily adjusting to lots of outside time on all the acreage. Jax is the toy boy who plays a version of keep-away as Jill works hard to let him know she is in charge! All in good play, they are a great pair who clearly have worked out any concerns between them long ago. Their games are well established and they are happiest near each other or exploring together. They both adore people… everyone is their new best friend and cuddling is their favorite inside activity! Turns out while Jill does boss Jax around, she was a pup arriving in the home when Jax was the older one. He obviously decided having a supervisor was ok! They are not related, yet both are very tall Border Collies, likely from the east coast, we have been told. The guardians passed away a year ago leaving Jax and Jill in the care of a family member determined to keep them out of a shelter. The living situation meant the duo had no yard and only leash-walking so it made sense they should have a different life. Previously used to roaming four acres of their own, we can easily see they are very happy now! Jax and Jill are best as a solo pair since Jax has some issues with other dogs. He also will chase cats though Jill is fine. Both have some weight to knock off which will be easier with more activity - once trim, they are likely to be around 50 pounds. Their labwork is all good without issues. Jax & Jill would do best living in a one-level house as they both have joint issues. Jax has arthritis in his elbows and knees, so benefits from daily gabapentin pain medication. Jill has severe bi-lateral hip dysplasia, as well as lower back spondylosis. It is important to trim her weight so she can be more comfortable and also provide daily pain medication. Jill is a candidate for an FHO which improves the way the hip joint sits in the socket. Glen Highland will share in the cost of this orthopedic surgery once Jill is thinner. Jax & Jill came to GH from South Carolina. A huge thank you to Michael Strauss, Ann Miller and Elvin Atkins for moving them to us in Virginia.
