JACK is enjoying the Sanctuary life at Glen Highland having good fun exploring the big yard areas with Senior pals who are just like him - full of spunk but needing rest, too! A real charmer, he is so happy to meet anyone. Jack is truly one of those Border Collies who thinks every person is his friend so he goes up to say hello and then he’s on his way to check things out. Happiest for affection but then his curiosity pulls him to jaunt around on his own. He’s sweet as can be with some bold impulses, too! Jack is enjoying some ball chase games again now that he has companionship throughout the day. Once a beloved Border Collie friend to his previous FurMom, he was used to doing lots with his person so expects a toss soon as he sees us. Then, touch his harness and he’s ready to rock to the car for a hike. He had a very good life until changes (birth of a baby and another on the way) created anxiety for him and his guardians so he was tucked outside 24/7 which led them to seek out rescue. Thankfully, we could help. Jack is a wonderful, classic intelligent guy with lots of energy for years ahead. We are really happy to give him whatever he needs to be healthy and blossom. Shown below, Jack awaits a ball toss with his pals 15 year old Daphne, 12 year old Tucker & 14 year old Ollie!
Jack does need careful monitoring because he has pancreatitis. Diagnostics confirmed the GI disease and that meant a low-fat prescription food for him and no novel food whatsoever. We learned about his medical condition on arrival with an emergency situation racing to the vet. Thankfully, we navigated his needs with an IV injection protocol - Panoquell-CA1 given three consecutive days. This unique solution landed on the market in May 2023 and we’re glad to have it. In years past, we had Seniors die with pancreatitis due to bacteria in the GI tract causing fever. Though an expensive solution ($800 for 3 days) that requires hospitalization, we are so glad it works! Jack came to Glen Highland from Alabama.
A huge thanks to Beth Griffin who evaluated Jack and then drove to NC from Alabama, passing him to GH adopters, Kate Barth & Lisa Owens who kindly drove further east toward Virginia meeting one of our team, Aiyana Persinger. His long 12 hour journey was split into two days to make it easier on him so he arrived a pretty content fella! |
