MEDICAL UPDATE May 2023: Sweet Jack arrived in April and promptly needed to be vetted for pancreatitis. Diagnostics confirmed the GI disease and that meant a low-fat prescription food for him. While he clearly needed to gain weight, this medical condition takes time to stabilize in the body for proper nourishment. Unfortunately, two rounds of sloppy stools led to hospitalization efforts. Good news is an IV injection protocol works wonders - Panoquell-CA1 given three consecutive days helped Jack gain ground and now his body is on a better course. He cannot have any novel food whatsoever or it could trigger his pancreas and another emergency situation. This unique solution landed on the market in May 2023 and we’re glad to have it. In years past, we had Seniors die with pancreatitis due to bacteria in the GI tract causing fever. Though an expensive solution ($800 for 3 days) that requires hospitalization, we’ve saved Jack’s life now TWICE. We are so happy to have Jack living happily at Glen Highland! JACK, who turned 13 in March, is now enjoying the Sanctuary life at Glen Highland having good fun exploring the big yard areas with Senior pals who are just like him - full of spunk but needing rest, too! Jack is a real charmer, so happy to meet anyone. Jack is truly one of those Border Collies who thinks every person is his friend so he goes up to say hello and then he’s on his way to check things out. Happiest for affection but then his curiosity pulls him to jaunt around on his own. He’s sweet as can be with some bold impulses, too! Jack is enjoying some ball chase games again now that he has companionship throughout the day. Once a beloved Border Collie friend to his previous FurMom, he was used to doing lots with his person so expects a toss soon as he sees us. Then, touch his harness and he’s ready to rock to the car for a hike. He had a very good life up until 3 years ago with the birth of a baby and another on the way. The changes created anxiety for him and his guardians so he was tucked outside 24/7 which led them to seek out rescue. Thankfully, we could help. Jack is a wonderful, classic intelligent guy with lots of energy for years ahead. We are really happy to give him whatever he needs to be healthy and blossom. His new pals 14 year old Daphne, 12 year old Tucker & 13 year old Ollie are happy to have him join the gang! A huge thanks to Beth Griffin who evaluated Jack and then drove to NC from Alabama, passing him to GH adopters, Kate Barth & Lisa Owens who kindly drove further east toward Virginia meeting one of our team, Aiyana Persinger. His long 12 hour journey was split into two days to make it easier on him so he arrived a pretty content fella! |
