A Complex Sweetheart We knew Patches would be a complex Sanctuary Resident since she has diabetes AND a pancreatic enzyme disorder (EPI) which means regulating her body is hard and requires 24/7 monitoring and special medications.
During an appointment with an internal med specialist, her LEFT eye lens ruptured, which led to rushing her to cataract surgery a week earlier than planned to save the RIGHT eye. Then about 6 months later, eye pressure issues in the LEFT eye led to its removal. And look at Patches now…. WITH HER EYE LITERALLY ON THE BALL!!! She can see perfectly - one eye is better than none!
Through all the vetting, Patches has been stunning…her fabulous nature shines through every day. Tons of ball play, cuddling and lots of Border Collie fun make for a very happy girl, no matter what! Not one bit of push-back (except when ball playtime needs to end) and she is all joy, joy, joy! She is clearly feeling great now! And so are we! Patches is a delight to be around, hopping up on the couch with a gentle lean on your shoulder for chin scratches. Then with your attention, she hops off and will bring you the closest toy and drop it in your lap. This toy maniac is an expert finder of ‘lost toys’ around the house and quite the nosey girl when she thinks there is a toy in a box or a bag or closet. She does have a wonderful off switch and rests quietly until next playtime!
Patches HAS to be the center of attention, and has no qualms about telling other dogs to back off her space or her toys, and she is also the fun-police if it’s not her having the fun! We know all about bossy girl Border Collies! Fingers and paws crossed for this girl to stay stable... she has a rough combination of diseases. Sadly, Patches original guardian did not have the means to handle her care. A Border Collie lover, Natalie Shipley, stepped in and took Patches in August 2024. Patches went from a mere 20 pounds to about 35 pounds and of course, a much happier dog. It was best for Patches to make a move to rescue. She is now 40 pounds and came to Glen Highland from Tennessee. |
